Course Inclusions

Week 1: Female Anatomy & The Third Trimester

  • A brief overview of female anatomy and how your body prepares for birth
  • What to expect in the final weeks of pregnancy—physically and emotionally

Week 2: Understanding Labour

  • The process of physiological labour—what happens inside your body
  • The stages of labour and how to recognise them
  • How your hormones and nervous system play a role

Week 3: Pain in Labour & Mind-Body Tools

  • Understanding pain perception and changing the way you experience it
  • The role of fear in labour and the benefits of stress hormones
  • Pain relief options, including:
    • Natural methods: relaxation, breathing techniques, movement, vocalisation, massage, acupuncture, and acupressure
  • Medical options: opioids, gas, epidurals, and anaesthesia

Week 4: Birth Planning & Informed Choices

  • Diving into interventions—what they are, why they happen, and what your options are.
  • How to create a birth plan that reflects your values and preferences
  • Understanding your rights and choices in birth

Week 5: Breastfeeding 101

  • How your body makes milk and the hormonal process of lactation
  • Expressing colostrum before birth for a confident start
  • The basics of latch, positioning, and feeding cues

Week 6: Preparing for Postpartum

  • What happens in the early postpartum weeks—physical and emotional recovery
  • Practical tips for newborn care and adjusting to life with your baby
  • How to build your support system for a smoother transition
